The Citizen Energy Advisory Hub (CEAH) is mapping citizen energy initiatives across Europe, including energy communities, citizen energy dialogues and energy consumption reduction projects.
Map of energy communities across Europe
The interactive map below offers an easy way to explore different types of initiatives. It provides inspiring examples for those who want to set up similar initiatives, learn how to create more impact, or reach specific target groups through their existing activities. The map also supports researchers and policymakers in assessing citizen energy initiatives and supporting frameworks, and in understanding the approaches taken by different regions or countries and their impact.
Disclaimer
The CEAH map of energy communities includes citizen energy communities (CECs) and renewable energy communities (RECs) as defined in EU Directives [Article 2(16) Recast Renewable Energy Directive 2018/2001, and Article 2(11) Recast Electricity Directive 2019/944] . The initiatives were verified along the lines of the criteria linked with the EU-definitions of RECs and CECs. These criteria include legal entity, effective control, open participation, and primary purpose. This map is without prejudice to the existence of national classifications of energy communities. This map is non-exhaustive, and certain Member States, such as Ireland, are currently incomplete but will be updated soon to show data of existing initiatives.
